Ctrip's Contingency Plan Launched for Sichuan & Xinjiang Quakes

Ctrip's Contingency Plan Launched

A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Jiuzhaigou county in Sichuan province at 9:19 pm on Tuesday, killing 12 and leaving 175 injured according to the latest news reports at 10am Wednesday, August 9th.

Another magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit Jinghe County in Xinjiang at 7:27 am on Wednesday, with strong tremors felt in Urumqi, the provincial capital some 400 km away.


Ctrip is actively monitoring the situation and has launched a contingency plan to ensure that traveler's safety and travel plans are unaffected.

Ctrip has contacted all its customers in or on the way to Jiuzhaigou or Jinghe by SMS or email to offer any possible assistance.

For the Sichuan earthquake:

-    All tour bookings with a departure date in the coming 3 days can be canceled free of charge.

-    All hotel bookings in Jiuzhaigou (九寨溝), Songpan (松潘), Wenchuan (汶川) and Mao County (茂縣) with a check-in date before August 31st can be canceled free of charge.

-    All flight ticket bookings departing from or landing in Huanglong Airport Jiuzhaigou from August 9th to 11th can be canceled free of charge.

For the Xinjiang earthquake:

-    All hotel bookings in Jinghe (精河), Bole (博樂) and Xinyuan (新源) with a check-in date before August 16th can be canceled free of charge. 

-    As of now, all flights to and from Bole Airport and Yining Airport are unaffected. Ctrip will keep closely monitoring airlines’ policies and flight status to and from those areas.
