Public Home: an urban planning talk by artist Gaby Steiner

Wednesday, October 28th at 7.30pm - 50RMB, 40RMB (Members)

Artist Gaby Steiner, author of the book Public Home, will be at The Bookworm to talk about urban planning and her art project.

The subject of Public Home is Jerzy Sulek, an immigrant from Warsaw who was evicted from his home in Brooklyn. Steiner followed him for five years, photographing his life in the open air. His property in Greenpoint is defined as "vacant land” by the Department of Buildings in Brooklyn.

His situation is symbolic of the precarious position of the human condition in contemporary urban life and the vulnerability to constantly shifting relationships between public and private realms.

The talk will be moderated by Charles Townley, Professor at New Mexico State University
