Shanghai Fashion Week is on now

The bi-annual Shanghai Fashion Week kicked off last night (Tuesday 13 October), transforming Taipinghu Park beside Xintiandi into a home for the city's fashionistas until Monday 19 October.

Plenty of familiar brands will be strutting their stuff over the next week at the Xintiandi event, which launches tonight with a catwalk from Shenzhen-based Zhuchongyun. Look out for new designs from from Fake Natoo, C.J. Yao, Uma Wang, Dong Liang, Helen Lee ,Sankuanz and popular Shanghai menswear brand Fairwhale over the coming days.

Always lustworthy are new designs from Nicole Zhang, who this year is promising more of her signature confident wearability at a show on Thursday afternoon. Jade en plus will be displaying their spring lines on Saturday - a good one to try and wangle a ticket for fans of their chic, clean-cut fashion - as is Niki Qin’s Moodbox show next Tuesday evening.

As usual, Shanghai Fashion Week is technically a closed event, with tickets theoretically only available to those in the industry or those who get tickets from the designers directly. None are available for general purchase, or on the door before the show, but - surprise, surprise - you can usually get tickets from the touts outside if you’re really desperate to get in. Bear in mind that tickets are usually free for the VIPs however, so bargain hard if you really want to pay.

If you can’t stomach it either, your best bet is to settle on the street outside and people-watch with the rest of the common folk.
