Tonight: Launch of new books by Hong Ying and Eliza V. Handayani

Tonight at 7.30pm - 50RMB, 40RMB (members)

Vagabond Press is announcing their first launch in Beijing at The Bookworm. Come along to celebrate the launch of the first collection of poetry by one of China's best known writers Hong Ying, translated by world-renowned translator Mabel Lee and the first novel in English by one of Indonesian's award-winning, up-and-coming novelists Eliza Vitri Handayani.

“Eliza Vitri Handayani's novel is set against the uncertain politics of contemporary Indonesia, the excesses and failures of which lend a poignant urgency to the characters’ equally clumsy attempts at forging an honest and enduring relationship; as democracy goes (or remains elusive), so does love.”

Hong Ying, as author, can only re-present the characters of her novels in accordance with how she perceives them: as a woman. Her poetry is highly personal, shedding light on her personal life, including her own sexuality and sexual experiences.
