Spring Wave Festival cancelled due to 'public safety' issues

And another one bites the dust. This week's cancellation comes in the form of Spring Wave Festival, the Taiwanese-backed music fest that was set to take over part of Chongming Island this October holiday.

Organisers released a short statement on Friday stating that they were unable to go ahead with the festival due to 'public security and venue' problems. It's not clear exactly what the issues were, but Spring Wave may be secretly grateful of a reprieve - they appeared to be struggling for an exciting line-up especially and were fighting for a similar audience to the returning Simple Life Festival, which is touting a similar set of pop acts on similar dates.

Another Taiwanese festival, Simple Life originally announced that they were going to be welcoming Rufus Wainwright and Lauryn Hill to Shanghai, only to back track days later when both were refused performance permits. Instead, the Expo Park-based festival will now feature Macy Gray and Jolin Tsai (the latter unusually backed by a full band) among its headliners.
