Uber launches EV project in China, encourages NEV purchase

  • Uber China has announced China's first "Electric Vehicle Day" project for its car-hailing service in 13 Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. Starting from Dec. 17, passengers who prioritize electric vehicles for their car-hailing services will receive bonuses. At the same time, new-energy vehicle (NEV) owners will gain a privilege of quick access to join Uber's car-hailing platform and receive various kinds of bonuses for NEV drivers.

  • Uber Beijing and Shanghai also announced Uber will award Uber electric vehicle drivers registered for their carpooling service with an additional bonus, to encourage citizens to buy new energy automobiles.

  • Data has shown that Uber users can hail vehicles powered by clean energy in 335 cities around the world via Uber app. Uber claims that 30% of the cars registered in Uber Shanghai are electric vehicles.
