  • Li Wanli, Vice Secretary-General of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, recently wrote an article to analyze the three tasks that the automotive industry should complete during the "Made in China 2025" plan.

  • Under the plan, the vehicle market is tasked with leading other industries to the Industry 4.0. This will further improve the living condition of domestic auto brands, allowing them to compete with international counterparts.

  • New-energy vehicle technology should be further promoted to achieve the increasingly strict emissions standards. Meanwhile, automotive production should be programmed to meet diversified consumer needs. Additionally, the industry is expected to promote the innovation in terms of administrative and social management.

  • Major structural changes are also expected in the auto industry. Local automakers should change their role as an OEM or imitator to focus on creating international brands. In a bid to achieve the goal, they should further improve their product quality to enhance brand value and the image of "Made in China" label. Local automakers should also shift their focus from manufacturing to services. The traditional auto sector is seeing challenges from new players, such as Alibaba and Tencent. According to Li, traditional automakers should cooperate with these new players to jointly promote the industry.
